FAQ

If you have any further questions or concerns, please contact us!

Q: What steps are taken during the hiring process?

We actively seek out seasoned experienced staff to ensure the best environment for our campers. All prospective staff members undergo a background check and are fingerprinted prior to the personal interview. All prospective staff members are also required to provide references. The hiring process is completed before the start of the season.

Q: What happens if my child gets sick during camp?

Our on-site health center is equipped with patient care rooms and overnight sleeping facilities if your child needs recovery time. We have a doctor on staff, supported by our 24 hour on site nursing team.

Q: What is your security like at camp?

The security and safety of our campers and staff members is our biggest priority. Visitors to our camp are very limited, however; anyone arriving at our property will be greeted by our front gate security. In addition to our front gate security, we also have an 24 hour security guard on premises to oversee the safety of the entire camp.

Q: What is the cabin safety like at camp?

Each cabin is equipped with a fire alarm, fire extinguisher, and multiple emergency exits.

Q: Is there a dress code?

Campers are encouraged to wear clothing that reflects their unique personalities and styles. Please note, we do not tolerate any clothing displaying derogatory, hateful, language, or anything with reference to drugs or alcohol. All clothing worn at camp should cover the body and undergarments appropriately. Any clothing that doesn't meet these guidelines won't be allowed at camp. Specific recommendations for items of clothing will be listed in detail on our camper packing list.

Q: How will I know how my child is doing at camp?

You are always welcome to reach out to us with questions or concerns about your camper. There will be photos posted daily to our online portal as well as a weekly newsletter that will provide a recap of the day’s activities. We want you to feel as much a part of the Akiba community as your camper does, and we’ll keep you informed and involved every step of the way.

Q: Will my child be able to receive mail and/or packages?

Yes, they will be able to receive mail at 300 Camp Akiba Rd, Stroudsburg PA, 18360. We believe in the charm of classic letter-writing. For campers, nothing beats the joy of getting a genuine hand-written letter or card during mail call each day. Although packages are accepted, they are not encouraged. If packages are sent to your camper, we kindly request that it is no larger than the size of a magazine as campers should arrive with all of their required and approved belongings.

Q: How will my child’s prescriptions and medication be handled?

The health and well-being of our campers is our top priority. Using Pack My Rx, each camper’s medication is separated into individual doses prior to the start of camp. Our camp nurses are present at all meals, and campers will receive their medication prior to leaving the dining hall. In addition to administering medication, our doctor, nurses and health center team are always available to provide any necessary medical care to our campers and staff members.

Q: Is technology permitted?

Our campers will not have access to any of their devices that connect to the internet, show movies, take photos or videos, play games, or share data. They will be allowed to have an MP3 player if it does not connect to the internet or have data sharing capabilities. Our counselors will not have access to their phones or devices while they are in the cabins or at work. Counselors will be able to access their phones/devices during their periods off, nights off, and days off.

Q: How are birthdays celebrated at camp?

We love a good celebration, and a camper’s birthday is surely a reason to celebrate! Any camper with a birthday during camp will be invited to help raise the flag at our morning flag ceremony, and they’ll receive a musical Happy Birthday chorus to start their day. They’ll receive an extra phone call home on the day of their birthday, and their entire cabin will receive a special home-made birthday cake during dinner.

Q: How is laundry done?

Laundry is done once a week.
